Prior to being banned in the early 1980s, it was common to use asbestos in a wide variety of building products. If your home was built before 1984 then it is likely that there are products that contain asbestos within your home.

  • VCT floor tiles

  • Insulation around water pipes or heat ducting

  • Ceiling tiles

  • Lathe and plaster walls or ceilings

  • Vermiculite insulation

If you suspect there is Asbestos in your home, what should you do?

If the product is already protected or isolated, the best thing is to leave it alone. The worst thing is to start ripping out the product. Asbestos poses health risks only when the fibers lodge in the lungs and can impair lung function. When you disturb the fibers, you are making them airborne.
